FATORDA: Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim blanked St Joseph’s Convent High School, Nagoa-Verna 5-0 in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 football tournament held at the Astro turf ground, Fatorda, on Tuesday. Mount Mary’s High School dominated the match and had the first chance in the second minute when Melroy Fernandes was set on goal by Aaron Cardozo but the former’s move was tackled by the rival defender Sachin Gawas.
After that St Joseph tried a solo effort through Rufan Mazundar but the latter’s long range shot was easily saved by Chinchinim school keeper Shivanand Dyanweker.
The first goal of the match was scored by Melroy Fernandes in the seventh minute. Within two minute, Mount Mary’s doubled the lead through Mydon Menezes.
In the second half, Mount Mary’s netted three more goals. Rizlie Fernandes scored the team’s third just after changing ends before Melroy made it 4-0 in the 48th minute.
Mydon Menezes completed his brace just before the final whistle.
In other match, Infant Jesus High School Colva defeated St Xavier High School, Velim 5-4 via the tie-breaker.
Mulla Maulalli equalised for St Xaviers before Raheen Khan gave Infant Jesus an early lead.
In the tie-breaker, Infant Jesus High School proved to be better shooters.
In another match, Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School Verna defeated St Xavier’s Institute Curtorim 2-0. Fr Agnel netted through Daryl Silva and Ashley Borges.
