FATORDA: Nashik CA and SAG B got the better of Lucknow Cricket Academy and Vijay CA, Belgaum at Fatorda and Chicalim grounds respectively to surge forward in the first late Babu Naik Junior All-India Cricket tournament, organized by Sportsweek CC, on Monday.
At Fatorda ground, Nashik shed their complacency and played some professional cricket to get the better of Lucknow CC by six wickets. Sitting pretty at 85 for 4 in ten overs, the Lucknow side were bundled out by diminutive left-arm spinner Omkar Tawre (8.5-2-19-5) for 131 in 24.5 overs. Vivek Isharwal (2 for 52), Shivam Derle (2 for 18) and Anirudh Das (1) supported Tawre.
NCA were struggling at 35 for 2 but a superlative counter-attack by skipper Ayush Maccha (69 not out 16×4) was responsible for NCA’s easy victory by six wickets. Zaeem Khan took two wickets for 25 runs.
At Chicalim ground, Vijay Cricket Academy won the toss and put SAG (B) to bat but a cavalier knock by Manthan Khutkar (70) and good contributions by Digesh Raikar (38), Daivik Rao (25) Sanath Nevgi (23) helped SAG pile up 227 in 42 overs. Chirag (4-38) was VCA’s most successful bowler with Vaibhav (3-10) and Aman (1) chipping in.
Some tight bowling by SAG (B)’s Unni Krishnan (3-25), Digesh Raikar (3-27) helped by Craig Dourado and Saiesh Satardekar, who took one wicket each, skittled out the Belgaum team for 125 thus winning by 102 runs.
