PANJIM: Navelim Villagers Union edged past St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda 6-5 via the tie-breaker to lift the 5th Our Lady of Fatima Cup, organized by Dicarpale Sports Club, at Dicarpale ground, recently.
The teams were locked goalless at full time.
The match sparked to life in the 10th minute with a promising header by St Anthony’s Seby Fernandes but Navelim goalkeeper Dalwin Costa came up with an excellent save.
The teams matched each other for pace but their strikers could not convert.
Changing ends. The trend continued and the match had to be decided in the penalties.
Navelim Villagers Union kept their cool in the shoot-out with Valinton D’Silva, Joseph Dias, Allwyn Fernandes, Bittu Singh, Delrick Gomes and Clive Mascarenhas finding the back of the net.
St Anthony Sports Club converted through Succor Fernandes, Juliao Fernandes, Jaison Dias and Issac D’Costa, Sidney Vaz. Navelim Villagers recieved the trophy from chief guest MLA Caitu SIlva.
