MAPUSA: Navelim Villagers had to wait until the tie breaker before scoring a 5-4 win over Saligao Sporting in the Reis Magos Soccer Cup, at played at Verem panchayat ground, here, on Saturday. Both the teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at halftime.
The game started off on an attacking note where in the 16th minute Anil Shirodkar saw his powerful strike from outside the danger zone bang the horizontal bar.
Alvito Colaco gave Navelim the lead in the 25th minute of play when he rose high to nod home Jaison Pereira cross.
They joy was however lived as in the very next minute Saligao came with the equalizer when Ajay Diwadkar’s long range effort crashed into the Navelim nylons.
Crossing over Jaison Pereira netted in his brace to take Navelim back into the lead scoring off a free-kick from the edge of the box. Two minutes Saligao once again came with the equaliser through Ajay Diwadkar who scored through a long floater 2-2.
In the resultant tie breaker Sandy Colaco, Cleton Gomes, Anil Shirodkar, Jason Pereira and Alister Gomes scored for Navelim while Niaro Shaikh, Augustine D’Mello, Videsh Satardekar and Uday Naik shot on target for Saligao.
