MAPUSA, OCT 2
Ten-men Paradise Sports Club held on to hold Panjim Footballers goalless in GFA’S Third Divison at Taleigao ground on Saturday.
Vinit Kurtiker received his second yellow card and was sent off for Paradise in the 61st for a reckless tackle.
Panjim had a very young side and did well against a more experienced team. Paradise had more attempts on goal but reduced their movement forward, after the sending off.
In the 7th, Panjim’s Raymon Fernandes struck a shot which was just wide off the post.
At the other end, Paradise’s Nitin Kunkolkar attempt from long range missed the goal by a whisker.
After Panjim dominated the opening period, it was Paradise’s turn to push forward.
Panjim’s Shankar Murgaonklar did well to win the ball and set Prashant Sawant free on the left. He stormed towards the goal, and unselfishly diverted the ball across the goal but Vinit Kurtiker shot over.
Shortly after, Prakash was put through on goal but his shot was blocked by the rival defence.
On the half hour mark, Panjim’s Jesvil D’Souza received the first booking of the match for kicking the ball away. Four minutes before the break, Vinit was booked for a foul.
Shankar hit the post from a free kick for Paradise on the stroke of half time.
Changing over, Panjim defender Mario Fernandes tried a 40-yarder which just dipped over the bar.
In the 55th minute, Paradise’s Vinit put in a good cross from the right but Royston Fernandes failed to make good contact with the ball.
Vinit received his marching orders in the 61st for his second bookable offence.
Panjim continued to push forward and try to take advantage of the extra man. Paradise did well not to concede and got a point for their efforts.
In another match at Santa Cruz ground, Crown Club defeated Bhagwati Sports Club 4-1. Sachin Bansi opened the scoring for Crown in the 26th. Dean DMello scored in the 35th and 45th to put Crown three up. Three minutes after half time, Pedro Araujo punted in the fourth. Satavan Shirvoikar pulled one back for Bhagwati in the 64th.
