AMBELIM: Parish Youth Nuvem scored a comfortable 5-1 win over Maina Sports Club in the Lourdes Soccer tournament, played at Ambelim ground, on Monday.
Early in the game, Parish Youth keeper Macklino came with a fine save to deny Maina SC’s Merriston’s header. Nuvem’s Aloysius failed to make the best of the chance when he failed to score from simple tap in off a Shubert’s cross.
However, they soon took the lead in the 20th minute when Sanford Colaco guided in a Nigel corner, 1-0. Nuvem almost scored the second goal but a smart intervention from Maina’s Myson denied Sanford his second goal.
In the second half, Nuvem doubled the account in the second minute of the second half through Joywin Costa when he headin in a Shubert’s free-kick.
Howver, Maina SC came back strongly and managed to reduce the margin in the next minute through Aston.
But even before Maina SC could make a comeback, Aloysius scored the third for Nuvem to restore their two goal cushion. There was no stopping then, as Joywin then scored the fourth goal for Nuvem.
Maina SC’s Vicky Cardozo missed an open seater when he headed wide from close range.
Minutes later, Dagley Fernandes made it 5-1 in favour of Nuvem with a deft placement. Earlier, chief guest Fr Cajie Dourado, Parish Priest of Ambelim chapel marked the tournament open.
