NUVEM: Pax of Nagoa,Verna got the better of St Rock YC, Majorda 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 5th Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Parish Youth Nuvem, at Jesus Mary Joseph Church ground on Tuesday.
St Rock YC, Majorda had the better ball possession in the first ten minutes with Joel Sequeira and Josly Dias making moves upfront.
In the 8th minute Joel Sequeira released a power-packed shot which was saved with ease by the rival keeper.
St Rock’s Josly Dias tried a solo effort from the top of the Pax box but missed the rival nets by whiskers.
Pax took the lead through Clive Coelho who scored from the spot after referee awarded a penalty for a foul in the rival box.
Minutes later, Josly Monizx and Remedious Vaz tried a set piece but Remedious shot wide in the 48th minute. In the final minutes of second half, Josly Dias levelled terms for St Rock.
In the tie-breaker, Pax of Nagoa-Verna netted through Clive Colaco, Remedious Vaz, Mack Faria and Josly Moniz and for St Rock YC, Calata-Majorda Joel Sequeira and Floyd Fernandes were on target.
Pax of Nagoa-Verna will meet the winners of Curtorim Gymkhana and Ponda Footballers in the quarter-finals on July 17.
