MARGAO: Parish Youth, Nuvem defeated Chandor Club 5-2 via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of South Goa Mcdowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union, at Government School ground, Cuncolim, on Friday.
Chandor Club made a positive start and found the lead in the very 8th minute when striker Carry Costa slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot, to put the rivals down by 0-1.
Post resumption, Parish Youth showed the courage and neutralized the lead when attacking midfielder Jerose Olveira was brought down by rival defenders inside the penalty box and referee awarded the spot kick.
The resultant Queteiro Pango made no mistake in sending the Chandor Club goalkeeper in wrong way as he scored to level terms with the rivals.
The equalizer boosted the morale of PY Nuvem team as they looked more likely to threaten the Chandor goal as Chandor Club pushed on the back foot.
Majority of the goal bound threat came from the PY Nuvem team but they failed to net the match winner. Chandor Club tired to spruce up the attacks at fag end but failed to beat the rival goalkeeper.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Quetiro Pango, Inacio Colaco, Jerose Olveira and Clayson Pereira were on target for Parish Youth Nuvem, while only Kevin Vaz converted for Chandor Club.
