The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has received official clearance from the Government of Karnataka to host matches of the Indian Premier League at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, following a detailed safety inspection and infrastructure review.
The approval came after a meeting between KSCA officials, the state Home Minister, and an expert committee that assessed the safety measures and upgrades carried out at the stadium. KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya confirmed that the government granted permission after reviewing the completed works under Phase 1 of the stadium’s safety improvement plan.

“We are extremely happy to inform that the government has permitted us to conduct IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium. All five matches proposed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be played here, and there is also a possibility that the playoffs and final could be held at the venue,” Mruthyunjaya said.
He added that the state government has issued a formal letter allowing the matches to go ahead while directing the association to strictly follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
According to KSCA officials, the expert committee carried out a comprehensive inspection of the stadium on March 13, reviewing the infrastructure and safety arrangements. The committee confirmed that all Phase 1 works had been completed satisfactorily.
KSCA Vice President Sujith Somasundar said the committee also advised the association to launch a public awareness campaign highlighting the safety arrangements in place for spectators.
“The committee recommended that we conduct a strong social media campaign to inform fans about the safety measures. Spectators will be educated about entry and exit points, ambulance services, and other emergency arrangements available during matches,” he said.
Officials confirmed that the stadium has been cleared to host matches at full capacity, which is around 33,000 spectators.
The upgrades carried out at the stadium were based on recommendations from several government departments, including the police, Public Works Department, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Medical and Family Welfare Department. These measures primarily focused on improving crowd management, widening entry gates, increasing exit points, and strengthening emergency response systems.
With the clearance now in place, Bengaluru is once again set to host high-profile IPL matches at the historic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
