CALANGUTE: A Ryan Pereira strike helped Plierne Sports Club score a solitary goal victory over Sangolda Lightning to move ahead in the 4thAll Goa 9-a-side Reis Magos Panchayat Cup Inter Village football tournament 2013 organised by Verem Boys in collaboration with United Club of Nerul at Panchayat grounds, Ambekhand Verem on Thursday.
Sangolda came close to scoring in the 6th minute of play but Pilerne keeper Krupesh Bandodkar brought off a brilliant save diving full length to block a stiff attempt from Nikhil Naik. Pilerne too had a couple of scoring opportunities.
Changing ends, Pilerne almost scored in the 42nd but was saved by Joseph D’Costa. Pilerne scored the match winner with few minutes remaining for the final whistle through Ryan Pereira who headed home a Royston Pereira corner.
