Both the teams started the match on attacking note from word go and created a couple of scoring opportunities very early in the match however their forwards failed to find the net.
Ribandar’s Shaikh Saliya shot was saved by the rival keeper Soma Korgaonkar at the expense of a corner in the 15th minute of play.
Anjuna’s Navin Shirodker failed to beat the rival keeper after being well fed by Aksheya Vengurlekar in the 17th minute of play.
Anjuna’s Nitesh Salgaonkar off a good move by Rama Parsekar got a chance however squandered it as the rival keeper saved the ball in the 19th minute of play.
Ribandar’s Vardhan Haldankar shot wide after a receiving a good cross from Shaikh Silaya in the 22nd minute.
Ribandar almost succeeded in netting the first goal when Salu Santos took a shot at the Anjuna goal from above the D area but the defender Aksheya Vengurlekar rose to the occasion headed the ball out at the expense of abortive corner.
Crossing over, both the teams kept the momentum going and attacked each other’s citadel, time and again.
Ribandar’s Shaikh shot wide from close while at the other end Nyron’s try was saved by Ribandar Keeper Neston after a good move by Rama and Saprem.
Anjuna’s Pawan Dhargalkar try off Vinayak Mulgaonkar was tackled by Ribandar defense and played for a corner in the 40th minute of play.
Anjuna’s Nitesh Salgaonkar scored the first goal of the match following a good move in the 50th minute of play.
Stung by reverse, Ribandar went all out in search of the equaliser but time and again the Anjuna defence foiled the goal bound moves.
When all seems lost for Ribandar, they were lucky to be awarded a penalty after Savio Monteiro was brought down in the D area.
Shaikh Saliya converted the spot kick to put his team on level terms with just a minute left for the final whistle of the match.
In the penalty shootout, Anjuna boys kept their nerves to romp home winners by 4-2.
Saprem Diukar, Nitesh Salgaonkar, Dinesh Morajkar and Soma Korgaonkar converted for winners while Shaikh Saliya and Yogesh Gauns scored for the rivals.
Ribandar’s hardworking forward Shaikh Saliya was awarded the Man of the Match.
