MARGAO: Salcete Football Club came from behind to defeat a 10-man Curtorim Gymkhana 3-1 in a GFA 1st  Division league at Curtorim ground, Wednesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.

The teams were aggressive from the outset but it was Curtorim who took the lead in the 14th minute when striker Wellington Rocha struck from close.

The early lead did not deter Salcete. They brought out the best with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem. They created a couple of opportunities but their forwards were erratic.

Curtorim suffered a blow when their midfielder Ashlon Oliveira was ejected by the referee for second offense and they were reduced to ten men in the 20th minute.

Salcete used the numerical advantage when striker Slegan Rodrigues found the equaliser in the 24th minute as he picked up the pass from John Mascarenhas.

The equaliser boosted the morale of Salcete players and they heavily mounted pressure on the rivals.

Crossing over, Salcete were a transformed side and kept their opponents on the backfoot. Midfielder Francis Andrade was the fulcrum and kept his forwards busy with a stream of passes. He doubled the lead when he unleashed a volley which crashed into the net in the 54th minute. Slegan Rodrigues drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 87th minute to complete his brace.

With this win, Salcete have collected 14 points from 9 matches. Signals hold S M Taleigao
