DABOLIM: Salgaocar FC cruised past Dunes Sports Club, 2-0 in the Club 1-0 in a GFA’s U-18 First Division football league encounter at the TB Cunha sports complex, Cansaulim on Wednesday.
Goals from Jesmon Sores and Austern Fernandes in the either half enabled the mighty Greens to overcome a spirited Dunes SC in an enthralling match.
Salgaocar juniors did play their hearts out as they were under the watchful eyes of the senior coach Derrick Periera and didn’t disappoint him with a two goal victory against the visitors.
Salgaocar could have taken an early lead in the 16th minute when Jesmon capitalized on Dunes’ defensive lapse to give his side the lead. The home side could have added more but were frustrated by the brilliant goalkeeping of the custodian Rakesh, who denyed Jesmon and Myren on several occasion with the crossbar adding to the misery.
Dunes were totally outplayed in the first half but were lucky to be only a goal down as Salgaocar missed numerous chances to inflate their lead but came back strongly in the second half keeping Salgaocar’s attack at halt.
Dunes’ centre back Reco and Sally stood tall and thwarted every effort of the Greens but at the other end Dunes striker Shervin could not convert the team’s chances and was physically and technically overpowered by a strong Salgaocar defence of Domnic and Shubert.
With time running out and Dunes working hard to find an equalizer, Austern Fernandes scored the team’s second in the injury time of the second half after dribbling past couple of defenders and his side footed effort gave no chance for Rakesh who was brilliant under the bar throughout the match.
