Party leaders asked the squad to produce collector’s order in writing
MARGAO: The Lohia Maidan meeting of Congress witnessed a commotion at the fag end after members of the flying squad told the organisers to stop screening of a CD on Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s U-turns and his decision to stop mining in the state.
No sooner the CD screened on a projector, a member of the flying squad objected to the decision and conveyed to the Congress leaders about the SMS message from the District Collector, South, not to allow screening of the CD. The screening, however, continued with the party leaders asking the flying squad member to produce the collector’s order in writing to stop the screening.
After the screening ended, the flying squad member found himself at the receiving end after he came close to the screen along with a group of policemen. This agitated the huge crowd who booed the flying squad, terming them as agents of the Parrikar regime.
Incidentally, a water bottle was hurled at the flying squad member, which is reported to have landed on his hand. Police sent additional reinforcements at the venue including CISF personnel as the flying squad official insisted on attaching the projector, screen and the CD as per the Collector’s order. However, the squad could not lay their hands on the projector and the screen as the same was taken away by the organisers after the meeting.
When contacted, Margao PI Sudesh Naik said the police will act in the matter only after receiving a complaint from the election officials. “The flying squad member has not lodged any complaint that he was obstructed by the organisers while trying to stop screening of the CD”, PI Naik added.
