PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club will look to pick up their first points for this season of the Hero I-League against Shillong Lajong FC on Thursday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, at 4.30 p.m.
Losing all of their opening matches this far against opponents such as Bengaluru FC, Mohun Bagan and Mumbai FC, the Greens will look forward to their first win. The home team have also been deprived of a victory in their encounters against Mumbai FC and Bengaluru FC.
The Reds Coach Thangboi Singto said, “If we don’t score we won’t get points as goals make you win matches. I believe in my foreign strikers and goals will need to come sooner.”
The Shillong outfit has two Brazilian strikers Uilliams Souza and Fabio Pena, who have yet to score a goal for their team in this season.
On the other hand, the visiting Greens coach Malcolm Thomson, had this to say at the pre-match press conference, “We have played the three top teams in India and things didn’t go according to plan. We are taking time to gel as a unit and are conceding early goals too. We have to ensure that it doesn’t happen on Wednesday.”
The visitors will come into their fourth fixture under a lot of pressure. The playing conditions will be a worry as it will be cold and unlike the usual conditions which the team is accustomed to. Although, the team has a strong squad, they have yet to find their groove and adjust to the playing and coaching style of their Scottish coach.
