PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club struck down Vasco Sports Club 4-0 in the ‘Port Town’ derby, in GFA’s Goa Professional League, round seven football match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, Monday.
Ivorian Douhou Pierre  punched a dent into the Vasco citadel for Salgaocar with a neat header off a free-kick to put them ahead in the very first minute.
Vasco however, without foreigners in their ranks, refused to be undeterred and valiantly took on the force of Salgaocar. They played well but their strikers just could not combine to pose danger to the Salgaocar cage. They had their chances but lacked imagination.
Noting that the going was tough, Salgaocar coach Derrick Pereira introduced Darryl Duffy in place of under-20 Dominic Soares which added punch to the frontline.
Salgaocar went into the break with a second goal from Gilbert Oliveira that beat Vasco’s line of defence and goalkeeper Harpreet Singh.
On change of ends, Salgaocar with Duffy and Vasco who could not introduce their foreign recruits due to transfer snags saw The Greens score two more goals, though they did not come easy.
Duffy headed the third goal, capitalizing on a cross from Pawan Kumar in the 80th  minute and then added another to complete his brace after being put beautifully through by midfielder Aslon Oliveira. They top the table with 16 points. Vasco are in seventh spot with same points.
