Saligao United victorious

CALANGUTE: Hosts Saligao United beat St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 5-3 via the tie-breaker in the final of Saligao United Cup, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Friday.

The final turned out to be an exciting match but goals were hard to come. In the second half, Calangute had a couple of goal scoring opportunities to finish the match but their forwards failed to find the net from close distance.  Saligao too could have found the net in the dying minutes of play but Calangute defense stood its ground.

Lavinio Rebello, GFA vice-president (North) was the chief guest and gave away the trophy to the winners in presence of footballer Denzil Franco, Gajanan Kerkar, club president Peter Fernandes, Patrick D’Souza, Lourence Fernandes and other dignitaries.
Individual prizes were awarded to Abhjijit Govekar (Best Forward), Govind Mahale (Best Midfielder), Siddesh Kesarkar (Best Defender), Trevor Dias (Last Goal) all Saligao United and Selwyn D’Souza (Best Goalkeeper) St Savio SC, Calangute.
