CURTORIM: Sao Jose de Areal defeated St Anthony Sports Club Assolda 4-1 and lifted the 31st Curtorim Village Panchayat Cup, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana and played at Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, on Sunday.
Assolda opened the scoreline through Benson Fernandes in the 14th minute off a Louie Noronha assist.
In the 46th minute, Areal equalised through Larryl Mascarenhas. The scores were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
In the tie-breaker, Sao Jose de Areal netted through Aggio Antao, Monty Valadres and Fredrick Endro while St Anthony SC Assolda players failed to score.
The following were the individual awards: Man of the match: Louie Noronha (St Anthony SC, Assolda); Best defender of the final: Cruz Gomes (St Anthony SC, Assolda); Man of the tournament: Hilton Fernandes (Pax of Nagoa); Goalkeeper of the tournament: Johnson Bhagot (Curtorim Gymkhana); Best striker of the final: Benson Fernandes (St Anthony SC, Assolda); Best disciplined team: Parish Youth Nuvem.
Sao Jose de Areal were richer by Rs 40,000 while St Anthony SC had be content with Rs 30,000.
Curtorim MLA Reginald Lourenco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Moreno Rebello, ZP member Curtorim, Rui Menezes Sarpanch of VP Curtorim, Rev Fr Joseph Salema Parish Priest of St Alex Church Curtorim, Simon Baretto deputy Sarpanch of VP Curtorim, Anthony Pango GFA Executive member, Cosme Oliveira, Anthony Fernandes, John Silva (GFA Executive members) Andrew Ferrao, Arnald Costa, Dionisio Sardinha , Savio Fernandes other dignitaries and club officials.
