PANJIM: Rossman Cruz Sports Club, Nagoa-Verna edged past United Club of Telaulim 2-1 to enter the semi-final of the 42nd Bandodkar memorial football tournament organized by Baina Sports Club, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday.
Rossman Cruz took the lead in the sixth minute through a fine strike by Savio Fernandes off a pass by Stephan Abranches.
Soon, nine minutes later, they doubled their advantage after Rosevel Fernandes fed Savio for his brace.
In the 26th minute, Sandeep Colaco reduced the margin for Telaulim off an assist by Alistor Gomes. They had a golden opportunity to restore parity but Alvito Colaco ballooned over from close range after Bittu Singh did the spade work.
In the second session, Telaulim increased their tempo with forwards Sandy Colaco, Bittu Singh, Jason Pereira and Alvito Colaco raiding the rival territory but Rossman Cruz defence led by Stanley Pereira, Manuel Moniz and Vijal Rego thwarted their efforts.
In the dying minutes, Telaulim exerted pressure but their efforts went in vain. The man-of-the-match was awarded to Sandeep Colaco of Telaulim.
