PANJIM: Shiroda Youth Club scored an easy 3-1 win over Arlem Youth Association in the Goa Football Association Third Division League played at Curtorim ground, on Monday.
Shiroda YC started the match on an attacking note and dominated throughout while Arlem YA had their bleak share of chances and had the first shy at the goal with Samy D’Souza’s goal bound shot was easily saved by the rival keeper.
The Shiroda side then took control of the game with Royston Vaz making brilliant runs and testing the rival keeper time and again.
Shiroda’s first chance was when Ivon Antao made a superb run through the flanks and selfishly shot towards the goal which was saved by the keeper, instead of passing the ball to Joel Cruz, who was in an avoiding position.
Shiroda’s Royston made another attempt at the goal as he broke the offside trap and made the run before placing his shot goal wards. However, the brilliant strike hit the post to the striker’s dismay.
In another attempt by the Shiroda side, Joel sent a defence breaking pass to Ivon, however, the latter’s weak shot was saved by the rival keeper.
Shiroda YC finally managed to break the deadlock in the 43rd minute through Royston off Stevan Pereira’s connect.
Post resumption, Arlem YA managed to draw level in the 61st minute through Joy Pango. The joy was short-lived as Samir Noronha scored to keep Shiroda YC ahead in the 65th minute while Royston drove the final nail into the coffin in the 90th minute as the match ended 3-1 in favour of Shiroda YC.
In another match at Artificial Turf, Fatorda, Dramapur Sports Club edged past Carmel Sports Club 2-1.
Terrance Soares and Nigel Fernandes scored a goal each for the Dramapur side in the 32nd and 46th minutes while Aaron Barretto managed to pull a goal back for Carmel SC in the 85th minute.
