Since the beginning of last year, Alcaraz is the only player to have defeated Sinner more than once — and he has now done it four times in a row. Playing on the Foro Italico court in front of Sinner’s home crowd, the Spanish star demonstrated exactly why he is considered a future legend. This victory also snapped Sinner’s 26-match winning streak. He had remained unbeaten since October. Prior to this match, Sinner’s last defeat came at the China Open, where Alcaraz also defeated him in a final that went to a third-set tiebreaker.
Alcaraz Strengthens His French Open Claim
Alcaraz and Sinner have now faced each other 11 times, with the Spaniard winning seven matches, while Sinner has won four. Sinner appeared visibly disappointed after missing out on the Italian Open title, especially since it was his first tournament following a three-month doping-related suspension. On the other hand, Alcaraz has further solidified his status as a top contender for the French Open, which begins next Sunday.
In the 2024 French Open final, Alcaraz defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller with a scoreline of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
