MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa had a walk in the park as they overpowered Margao Sports Club 11-1 in a round one match of GFA Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, Thursday.
Backed by the overwhelming support from the students of Don Bosco HS, Panjim, Sporting Clube displayed their supremacy in the first session itself, scoring six goals. Boima Karpeh (4), Lesten Martins (2) Cajetan Fernandes (2), Rowllin Borges (2) and Pratesh Shirodkar scored for Sporting Clube while Danny Dias scored the consolation goal for Margao.
Sporting Clube got straight down to business as midfielder Pratesh Shirodkar and Lesten Martins combined to set up Boima Karpeh but the Liberian striker’s out of the box shot sailed inches over.
The Flaming Oranje enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession and surged ahead in the 27th minute when Cajetan Fernandes’ beautifully curled shot caught Margao goalkeeper Parsappa Harijan by surprise.
In the next minute, Sporting Clube doubled their lead as Boima powerfully headed in off a well-measured cross from Pratesh.
Margao were out of steam when their rivals went three goals up in the 35th minute as Boima picked up an intelligent ball from Pratesh and slotted past the rival custodian with ease.
Two minutes later, Lesten joined the party when he rounded off goalkeeper Parsappa and tapped into the empty goal off an assist from Rowllin Martins.
Boima inflicted more pain to the Margao supporters as he scored his third goal in the 40th minute.
With two minutes to go for the lemon break, Lesten registered his brace.
Changing over, Sporting Clube continued their dominance as hardworking Pratesh made it 7-0 in the 55th minute with a venomous strike.
Margao pulled one goal back in the 69th minute after Sporting Clube goalkeeper fumbled in his collection and the ball fell to Margao’s Danny Dias, whose long ranger crashed into the rival nylons.
However, Boima made it 8-1 in the 72nd minute and Cajetan scored his second eight minutes later.
At the fag end, Rowllin scored two quick goals. First, from a penalty and then a neat finish in the injury time.
