Sportsweek clinch Babu Naik Trophy

Beat Nashik Cricket Academy by seven wickets in the final; Goa’s Kaushal named man of the tournament while Sanath bags best batsman award

PANJIM: In a splendid display of disciplined bowling and sensible batting, Goa’s Sportsweek defeated Nashik Cricket Academy by 7 wickets to clinch the second edition of the late Babu Naik Trophy, at Fatorda ground, on Wednesday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the NCA batsmen found the goings tough as the Sportsweek bowling did not give them an inch as their first wicket fell at 34. The trend continued as the Nashik Cricket Academy played out all the 45 overs and ended at 128 for 8.
Skipper Pandey (21) was the only one to force the pace but perished while doing so. Spinners Shubhav Borker (2 for 28), Tusar Patel (2 for 26), Arya rajput (1 for 29) bowled well but the best spinner was Saiesh Satardekar who had figures of (9-1-17-1).
Opening pair of Sportsweek –Sanath Nevgi (25) and Kaushal Singh (76 n.o.) gave a good start with 77 runs.
But off spinner Ravindra Maccha scalped one more and Yash Chavan snapped Rajat Morajkar (0) making Sportsweek 83 for 3 and the NCA bowlers breathing down their necks. Any repeat of their match against Vijaya was thwarted by Tushar Kudnekar (11 n.o.) and played sensibly for Kaushal to make a winning hit to end at 132 for 3 in 34 overs. Ravindra Maccha (3 for 24) bowled well. Sagun Kamat, Goa captain was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
