PANJIM: St Anthony Sports Club, Marna-Siolim overcame Milagres Sports Club 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of Mc Dowell No.1 Yaari Premier Soccer Cup, organized by Vagator Parish Youth, at Ozran ground, Vagator, on Sunday.
In an evenly balanced battle, Milagres did everything but score in the regulation time, with Marna side returning home victorious through Ryan’s goal.
In the 10th minute, Shailesh Miskin received a pass from Krishna Chougle and latched a 30-yard shot which was saved by Marna keeper Siddesh Harmalkar.
Marna broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with Ryan D’Souza scoring off a pass from Chandrashekar Shirodkar, 1-0.
Post resumption, a power packed 20-yarder by Kashinath Uskaikar hit the Marna post.
At the other end, Sherwin Lobo dribbled past a host of Milagres defenders but failed to beat the onrushing keeper.
In the last quarter of the match, Milagres exerted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel but failed to score. Shailesh shot was intercepted by Marna defender Claudio Rodrigues, while defender Sarvesh Shirodkar came with a goal line clearance to deny Krishna from scoring.
Marna keeper Siddesh Harmalkar was also at his very best as he saved Aires Fernandes and Krishna Chouge goal bound strikes, to take his team into the semi-finals.
