MARGAO: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda shot-out Varca Sports Club 4-3 via tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa Our Lady of Assumpta trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Sarzora Sports Club, at Sarzora ground, on Wednesday.
St Anthony’s Sports Club held upper hand in the opening session and the persistent forays paid off when Succoro Fernandes put his team infront in the 12th minute.
Changing over, Varca Sports Club regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and Nash Pereira neutralised the lead with a free-kick in the 49th minute.
Both the teams failed to find the match-winner in regulation time as their respective strikers fumbled with the chances created.
In the penalty shoot-out, Sucorro Fernandes, Joseph Fernandes and Kevin Vaz converted for Assolda while Mohammed Shaikh and Joel Fernandes converted for Varca.
