MAPUSA: St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa and St Joseph’s High School, Calangute won their respective semi-final matches to set a final clash in U-17 boy’s Bardez Taluka Subroto Mukerjee inter-school football tournament, at Tivim ground, on Wednesday.
In the first semi-final, St Xavier edged past St Thomas High School, Aldona 3-1. The winners led 2-1 at half time.
Earl Sequeira had given St Thomas the lead but St Xavier’s bounced back and equalized through Sylvester D’Souza while Kingsley D’Souza put them in front before the break.
Ronaldo Martins sealed victory with a clinical finish in the second session.
The second semi-finals went on to a penalty shoot-out in favour of St Joseph, who edged past St Britto’s High School, Mapusa 5-4 after they were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Olviro Valley scored for St Joseph while Floyd Pereira levelled terms.
In the tie-breaker, Santan Pinto, Domnic Miranda, Gauresh Kerkar and Fraizer Fernandes scored for St Joseph while Mackan Pereire, Floyd Pereira and Flloyd Mascarenhas converted for St Britto.
The final between St Xavier HSS and St Joseph HS will be played at the same venue, at 9.30 a.m., on Thursday, followed by the third place match.
