PANJIM: The 18th edition of the Goa Police Football Cup will commence on August 22 with a match at the Duler stadium. Twelve teams will participate in the tournament this year comprising six teams from The Goa Pro League, five teams from First Division and one team from the Second Division will vie for honours.
The tournament will be played on a knock out basis. If the match ends in a draw, winners shall be decided on penalty kicks. The matches are set for a 4 pm kick-off.
The organisers will have the right to make any changes in the dates or venue in the interest of the competition. The teams competing in the tournament comprise Dempo Sports Club, Dempo Juniors, St Anthony Marna, Churchill Brothers, Chapora Yuva Sang, FC Goa, Salgaocar S. C, YBT Panjim, Goa Police, Sesa FA, Velsao S & CC and Youth Club of Manora. The top prize is Rs 2 lakh which goes to the winner while the runnes up will receive Rs 1 lakh along with their respective silverware. The player of the tournament will receive Rs 10, 000.
