PANJIM: With less than a week to go for the fifth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa, excitement is mounting as athletes from across India gear up for the country’s premier endurance race on November 9, at Miramar beach.
Since its 2019 debut, the event has grown into one of India’s top sporting spectacles, attracting both first-timers and returning participants drawn by its challenging course and coastal setting. Around 1,300 triathletes will swim, cycle and run through Goa’s scenic routes this year.
Among them are Dinesh Heda from Goa and Srivani YV from Bengaluru — two athletes who have completed every edition since inception. They were among several recognised with a Badge of Honour by IRONMAN India for finishing at least three editions in the individual category.
For 56-year-old chartered accountant Heda, triathlon began from a love for running. “I took up my first Olympic-distance triathlon around 2015 and entered the Half Ironman only when it came to Goa in 2019. Since then, I’ve done every edition here,” he said.
For chemical engineer and mother Srivani, the race is special. “Goa remains my favourite — it’s close to home, perfect for a family trip, and the vibe is unlike any other,” she said.
