MARGAO: The All-Goa under-17 State selection chess tournament for open and girls category organized by Canacona Taluka Chess Association (CTCA) under the auspices of Goa Chess Association got underway, Thursday, at Municipal hall, Chaudi and will conclude on Saturday.
Thirty-two chess players in open section and 23 in the girl’s category are participating.
Earlier, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, businessman-cum-social worker inaugurated the event in the presence of Dr Aman Prabhugaonkar, president, CTCA; Sharendra Naik, secretary, CTCA and Ramdas Sawant, treasurer, CTCA.
After two rounds in boys U-17, Ritviz Parab, Vageesh Tendulkar, Shane Braganza, Niraj Saripalli, Ameya Audi, Rajas Chari, Suyash Pai, Kapil Pause, and Vaibhav Pednekar are in a joint lead with two points each.
In the girl’s category, Urvi Bandekar, Ridhi Zantye, Aditee Prabhugaonkar and Sonali kerkar are in the joint lead with two points each.
Eleven boys and eight girls taking part are having international FIDE rating.
The tournament is conducted to select the State team for the under-17 Nationals to be held shortly.
