BENAULIM: United Club Fatorda Veterans had to dig deep to pip Candolim Veterans 4-2 in the tie-breaker to enter the finals of the 19th V.M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer Tournament organised by Prime Sports Club and played at St. John the Baptist Ground, Danddo Benaulim.
Fatorda started brightly but could not convert two gilt edge chances when winger Nicolau Borges shot wide on both the occasions. Candolim took time to settle and Vijay saw his effort well collected by Camilo Barretto in the Fatorda goal.
In the second session, Candolim pressurized the rival defence but could not find the way past Camilo. Fatorda almost scored in the dying minutes but Nicolau Borges’ shot was cleared off the line by Candolim defender Patrick Gonsalves.
In the tie-breaker Fatorda netted through Francis Andrade, Agnelo Colaco, Agnelo Gomes and Nicolau Borges while Pele Xavier and Govind Bandekar netted for Candolim.
