RAIA: Uguem Rising Club secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over hosts Cavelossim to book their place in the finals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at Fr Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim.
Cavelossim dominated the first half, creating two clear chances but failed. Steneo Fernandes, shot wide with an open goal and moments later Edvit Afonso had an opportunity, but his shot was off target.
In the second half, Uguem capitalised on their chances. In the 50th minute, youngster Youhana Dias struck a powerful grounder that beat goalkeeper Canute D’Melo. Uguem doubled their lead when Francisco Fernandes’ long-range effort was misjudged by Canute, who punched the ball into his own net.
Francisco Fernandes of Uguem Rising Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by Rinku Lobo, deputy sarpanch of VP Cavelossim.
