MARGAO: United Club of Fatorda Veterans edged past holders Bardez Veterans 1-0 to storm into the final of the 15th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Football tournament, organized by Prime Sports Club, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, recently.
After a barren first session, the teams played cautiously but Fatorda struck the killer blow six minutes before the end. Left-back Pascoal Fernandes floated a ball in the danger zone where substitute Francisco Colaco headed to unmarked striker Vincente Barboza who found the net with an emphatic finish giving no chance to Jude Fernandes.
Earlier, chief guest, Xavier Pereira, Deputy Sarpanch of Cana-Benaulim Village Panchayat was introduced to the teams by organizing secretary Socorro Coutinho.
