PANJIM: Panjim Football and Cultural Association in collaboration with Goa Senior Journalists’ Association, S.A.G. and Real Drinks, conducted one-day All Goa U-7 and U-14 badminton tournament and one-day All Goa Open 5-a-side football tie-breaker for U-14 and U-17 for school children, boys and girls, as a commemoration of the 4th anniversary of its foundation, at Indoor Stadium and S.A.G. football ground, Campal.
In all 69 students participated in the Badminton and 100 students in the football tie-breaker competitions.
In badminton U-7 boys, Vardan Khandolkar and U-7 girls Saee Dalvi bagged the first place which carried a Cash prize of Rs 2,500 each besides a trophy and certificate.
The runners-up in U-7 boys category were Neelay Kavlekar and U-7 girls Bakhita Noronha, which carried a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each, trophy and certificate.
In U-14 category Badminton, Anjana Kumari won the first place and Mehul Jiraage bagged the first place, which carried a cash prize of Rs 2,500 each besides trophy and certificate, while Megan D’Souza and Sushil Naik were the runners-up and bagged a prize of Rs 1,000 each besides a trophy and certificate.
In the 5-a-side football tie-breaker for boys U-14, Don Bosco High School, Panjim won the first place, while in the girls U-14 Auxilium High School, Taleigao won the first place, which carried a cash prize of Rs 2,500 each, trophy and certificate.
In this category, the runners up were Auxilium High School, Taleigao boys and Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula, which carried a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each, trophy and certificate.
In the U-17 boys tie-breaker category, Auxilium High School, Taleigao won the first prize, and U-17 girls category, Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula, A, won the first place, which carried a cash prize of Rs 2,500 each besides a trophy and certificate, whereas in the same category the runners-up Boys was Auxilium High School, Taleigao and Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula B, which won a cash prize of Rs 1,000each besides a trophy and certificate.
Prof. Matias Xavier Vás was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, he expressed satisfaction and lauded the efforts of the N.G.Os in providing opportunities to the youngsters to develop their talents.
He stressed that discipline and obedience is the core factor of all sports, which should spring up from their parents in their houses, and exhorted the young buddies to make best use of the opportunities made available to them.
Cyril D’ Cunha, general secretary of Goa Senior Journalists’ Association was the guest of honour. Also present were Satish Vernekar, Gen. Sec. of PF&CA, Goa State Player of Badminton, Floyd Araujo, other members of the both the Associations. The coaches of football, Selwyn and Diogo, from Don Bosco High School, assisted in conducting the tournament.
Earlier, C.S. de Araujo, President of PF&CA, welcomed the participants, their parents and guests, and Swapnil, acting Treasurer of PF&CA compered the function and proposed a vote of thanks.
All the participants, the parents and guests were served breakfast and a buffet lunch. A live band conducted by Maestro Luis Cota enthused the participants.
