MARGAO: Velsao Sports & Cultural Club registered a solitary goal win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Football Association’s Goa Professional League, played at Navelim ground, on Wednesday.
In the battle of the bottom half teams, Velsao SCC managed to walk away with full points.
The initial moments of the game saw both teams struggle to find the rhythm in the game as the ball was mainly restricted to the midfield.
With lack of creativity in the play, Velsao’s coach decided to replace Edward Souza with Rohan at the half hour mark. Substitute Rohan Uttar Kamble scored the lone goal of the game just after 10 minutes after coming on the pitch.
There were chances created from both sides, but poor finishing and good defending from either side saw both teams struggle to get on the scoreboard as the full time score read 1-0.
The win boosted their chances of averting the relegation though they are still at the bottom of the table as they now managed to grab 12 points from 16 matches.
This is the best run for Velsao SCC, as they have collected seven points in three games and would want this run to continue to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Vasco SC are now on 16 points from 20 matches.
Velsao’s Sadik and Jesloy Moniz went into the referee’s book for rough play while Vasco SC’s Marino and Olumide were also cautioned.
