PANJIM: A Prakash Rathod brace enabled Verem United Sports and Cultural Club to a comfortable 4-2 win against United Club of Nerul in the Goa Football Association Third Division League at Poriat ground, on Monday.
It was Nerul who broke the deadlock as early as sixth minute through Yash Naik. After a midfield battle in the later stages of the game, Mayolan R levelled terms for Verem at the half hour mark. The remaining half saw the play being restricted to midfield duel as both sides played possession game.
In the second half, Verem United went all out and were scored in the final quarter of the game. Prakash made it 2-1 in the 75th minute before Anthony Fernandes scored the team’s third goal. Prakash completed his brace in the 90th minute. United Club of Nerul still had time to pull a goal back in the 90+3 minutes through Ajay Naik.
In another match at Siolim ground, Holy Cross SC Arambol beat FC Siolim 5-1.
The winners led 1-0 at the breather with Prajyot Gaonkar scoring the only goal of the first session.
In the second half Prajyot inflated the tally soon after resumption. Holy Cross Arambol then scored three goals in the span of seven minutes. Amit Rane, George Vaz and Arun Naik were the three goals scorers for Holy Cross Arambol while V Fernandes pulled a goal back for the losing side.
In another match at Astro Turf ground, a strong second half fight from Parish Youth Nuvem saw them overcome Raitura Sports Club 2-1.
Shawn D’Souza’s 17th minute strike put Raitura SC ahead in the game as they held on to this advantage till the hour mark.
In the second half, Bevon Colaco levelled terms for Nuvem in the 67th minute before scoring the match-winner in the 85th minute.
In another match at Tilamola ground, Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club registered a thumping 6-1 win against Uguem Rising Club.
The winners had six different scorers scoring a goal each. Sezvin Fernandes, Ashwan Fernandes, Platini Fernandes, Master Menezes, Savio Vales and Drenzil Vaz scored for Fr Agnelo. Lawren pulled a goal back for the losing team.
Augustias SC humbled FC Sanquelim 9-1 at Assonora ground.
Charnel Fernandes scored a fine hat-trick for the winners while Mohammed Nadaf and Rupesh Patil scored a brace each for the winning team. Sachin Dongrakar and Joyston Lobo also got on the score sheet netting a goal each. Meanwhile for Sanquelim, Ashwin Sawal scored a consolation.
