RAIA: Verna Sports Club lifted the late Maria Anatansia Fernandes Cup defeating Sinquerim Sports Club 3-0 in the finals of all-Goa St Anne’s inter-village football tournament organized by Ponda Footballers at Animal Husbandry ground, Ponda, Sunday.
Verna were leading 1-0 in the first half through Clifton Rebello. They increased their lead in the second half through Hilton Fernandes and Imamsab Guledgudda.

Verna Sports Club opened their account in the 15th minute. Hilton Fernandes sent a through ball to Clifton who lobbed over the advancing goalkeeper.
In the 41st minute of the second half, Hilton headed off a free kick. In the 69th minute, Imamsab scored with a placement.
Following prizes were awarded: Man-of-the match – Hilton Fernandes (Verna). Best defender – Shaheen Sheikh (Sinquerim). Best midfielder – Sheldon Pereira (Verna). Best forward – Krish Naroji (Sinquerim). Best goalkeeper – Royal Moniz (Verna)
Earlier, Ponda Footballers felicitated Bhaskar Jalmi, Aniket Kerkar, Maresto Fernandes, who had played for the under-14 team and now are playing for professional clubs.
Earlier, Veterans Reds led by Martin Pires defeated Veterans Blues in an exhibition match.
GFA President Caitano Fernandes was the chief guest. Ketan Bhatikar was the guest of honour. Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Vincent Fernandes, Sandeep Opkar were also present.
