Verna Sports Club defeated Betalbatim Sporting Club 1-0 to enter the quarter-finals of Nagoa Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Rossman Cruz Sports Club at Nagoa ground, on Tuesday. There was no score at half time.
Both teams went into the attack and kept either goalkeepers busy. They had their scoring chances but the forwards frittered away numerous chances in ideal positions.
After the break, both teams continued in the same vein with their forwards testing the rival goalkeepers with snap shots.
With time running out, Verna made last ditch efforts which bore fruit when John
Fernandes found the roof of the net.
