Young, old join Vasco charity walk

Nearly 2000 boys and girls, men and women braved the chill and participated in 5km charity walk/fun run organised by Vasco Sports Club from Baina Beach here on Sunday.
Young and old, including an 86-year-old resident from Sada and a 70-year old lady from Old Goa rubbed shoulders as they happily participated inn the sporting extravaganza.
Undoubtedly, the theme ‘Run for Green Goa’ generated an overwhelming response with participants carrying banners “Run for Green Goa”, while some creative massages were printed on T-shirts. The organisers distributed saplings to the runners.
It was a carnival-like atmosphere with DJs and bands, including a traditional Goan brass band, enlivening the event.
“Thank you Goa for showing an overwhelming response. We would make an effort that this event would gain in stature in the years to come,” said Vasco Club president, Nitin Bandekar.
“It’s been fun running in Goa, the event had passionate runners and such an event would certainly boost the talent in India,” said celebrity runner Gul Panag who congratulated Vasco Club for their wonderful thought.
Goa Shipyard Limited’s Chief Managing Director Vice-Admiral Vineet Bakshi assured that they would be glad to associate with the event in future also, since they were the title sponsors.
Nitin Bandekar welcomed. Rakesh Unni proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, GSL Managing Director Vineet Bakshi flagged off the half marathon. The charity walk was flagged off by Narayan (Nana) Bandekar.
