PANJIM: The Civil Supplies Department, earlier given a clean chit in the grain scam, is now in a tight spot, as the Crime Branch has claimed that the foodgrains seized in the raids were from the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs warehouses.
The Crime Branch’s claim has left the department red-faced, which quickly said that no grain was missing from its warehouses.

The anticipatory bail application of Sachin Naik Borkar, who is the prime accused in the matter was heard. However, the hearing was adjourned for the want of police say in the entire matter.
Investigation Officer PI Therron D’Costa of Crime Branch in his say has written that “As the foodgrains are lifted from the Civil Supplies warehouses and in order to unearth the conspiracy hatched by different persons, a thorough custodial interrogation is required in order to find out the sales and proceeds of the foodgrains.”
The department had claimed that it is not based on any complaint that they filed, but is suo moto action. After understanding the gravity of the case, the department went on to claim that no foodgrain is missing from its warehouses.
The statements of the arrested accused pointed fingers to the Civil Supplies warehouses, which are proving to be true.
Now, it is also clear that Sachin Naik Borkar is the prime accused in the entire grain scam.
The Crime Branch is also probing the recent transactions of various Civil Supplies warehouses and the inward and outward of stocks.
The Civil Supplies Department however said that because the grains are taken to fair price shops in private vehicles there is a room to smuggle the grains. Civil Supplies Department had also informed that tender has been floated to fit GPS to the goods transport vehicles of the department and strictly use those for transportation of grains.
