PONDA: A group of local youth gathered and cleaned the premises of the house of now forgotten freedom fighter Ramkrishna Dada Bhat at Vadamal-Bhandol and hoisted the flag on his house on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day.
The group included late Dada Bhat’s grandson Manoj Dessai and locals Pratap Dessai, Ulhas Dessai, Pranay Gaonkar, Ganesh Gaonkar, Pankaj Velip, Santosh Velip, Prashant Gaonkar, Saish Naik and Rohit Naik.

The road at Wagon in front of Kirlapal-Dabal panchayat was named after Dada Bhat in 2003 but ironically, there is no road that leads to his grandson Manoj Dessai’s house yet.
“The new generation should be aware of local freedom fighters’ efforts and hence, it is necessary for the government to erect a memorial in front of their houses. These are their last remnants and the government should protect them,” said local Pratap Dessai.
