VASCO: The officials of Tourism Department inspected beaches of Hollant, Velsao and Cansaulim in order to provide better facilities for tourists visiting there.
Kiran Kumar Naik, engineer from Tourism Department said that plans are afoot to provide better facilities like illumination of benches, toilets, changing rooms and CCTV cameras at these three beaches. He said that recently Cortalim MLA Anton Vas had a meeting with the officials of Tourism Department to develop coastal beaches and during the meeting it was decided to inspect the beaches.
Naik said that the Tourism Department want to develop good facilities to boost tourism activities besides providing tourist police patrolling on the beaches.
Former Velsao-Pale-Issorcim panchayat member Roquezinho D’Souza and locals have requested their MLA to take up various issues plaguing the Velsao beach with the Tourism Department.
D’Souza said that lot of tourists, both domestic and foreigners are visiting the Velsao beach every year but no proper parking facility is available there. He said that many a times tourists park their vehicles in an haphazard manner creating traffic congestion in the village.
The villagers said that the Tourism Department should provide toilet facilities and changing rooms for the convenience of tourists besides adequate parking area. Also illumination and provision of CCTV cameras on the beaches was important in view of murders incidents reported at Velsao beach in the past.
