MARGAO: Many parts of Margao witnessed water logging following overnight pre-monsoon showers and heavy downpour this evening.

The main road opposite the Margao KTC bus stand was water logged this morning. Locals attributed the flooding to filling of the Municipal land for parking. The water logging posed nuisance to pedestrians and motorists and raised questions over the preparedness of the Margao Municipal Council to face the onslaught this monsoons.

Water logging was also witnessed along the Margao Cafe-flyover road, since morning. Residents of the area attributed the flooding to choked drains, with no passage left for the smooth flow of water.

Incidentally, the situation has come to light a day after the Margao Municipal Council had a review meeting of monsoon preparedness with various government agencies, including power, water supply, sewerage and the PWD. They have been served a deadline till Friday to clear the storm water drains or face action.

Water logging was also witnessed on the station road near the old railway station on account of clogged storm water drains.

Meanwhile, though the Margao Municipal Council has floated tenders and issued work orders to clean the water nullahs and drains, work has not started till date despite the city lashed by pre-monsoon showers. Sirvodem ward Councillor Dayanand Deulkar on Tuesday called on MMC Chief Arthur D’Silva and complained that pre-monsoons have not started in his ward till date.
