OLD GOA: Multiple land grab cases accused Siddique alias Suleman Khan who promised IRB constable Amit Naik Rs 13 crores to help him escape from the Crime Branch lockup in Ribandar on Friday early morning, escaped in a car on the way to Hubli by duping Naik.
On realising that he had been duped, Constable Amit Naik surrendered at Hubli police station on Friday. On Saturday he was arrested and brought to the Old Goa Police Station. Thereafter he was sent for medical check-up.
In terms of departmental action and considering the gravity of the offence, Constable Amit Naik has been dismissed from Service.
Land Grabbing accused Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan who is 55 years of age, is wanted in three cases of SIT LG and Proclaimed Offender. He escaped from the Crime Branch custody on Friday, 13 December 2024 with the help of IRB constable Amit Naik, who was on duty.
Siddiqui was wanted in two cases of North Goa. He was arrested by Crime branch SIT on 12 November 2024 after intensive efforts by led by SP Crime. He had been absconding for past 4.5 years. He was formally arrested in all 3 cases during 30 days. He was in Police custody in Crime Branch Lockup at Ribandar, where he was able to make a fool out of the IRB constable Amit Naik and promise him Rs 13 crores if he lets him out of the lockup and ferries him to Karnataka, where he promised to pay the money.
Many questions arise, as to how Constable Amit Naik believed Suleman Khan? How did he take the risk of ferrying him through two check posts? Why did he risk his job especially when CCTV cameras were present all over the Crime Branch Office.
DIG Varsha Sharma had declared on Friday, “Strict disciplinary & criminal action will be taken against IRB constable Amit Naik. Police officials on duty last night will also face action.” Five teams have been dispatched have been dispatched by the police and they are close on the heals of Suleman.
