PANJIM: The State government has sought public suggestions and objections to its Cabinet decision to amend the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1996, allowing the gram sabha meetings to be video recorded for the purpose of documentation.
The draft amendment is been kept open for public inputs for a period of ten days and the same would be taken into consideration before finalizing the draft.
The Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar led Cabinet on July 1 granted its approval for Goa Panchayat (Gram Sabha Meetings) (First Amendment) rules 2016. The government decision comes following request from several panchayats as unruly incidents were reported during the gram sabhas.
“The proceedings of every meeting of the Gram Sabha shall be recorded in a video film and shall form the part of records of Gram Sabha,” the proposed amendment reads.
