MARGAO: Leslie Gomes’s brace spurred St Anthony’s Sports Club to carve out a resounding 3-1 victory over Chandor Club in Group A of the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League, at Paroda ground, on Tuesday. St Anthony led 2-0 at the break.
St Anthony were a superior side with their forwards and midfielder working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure. St Anthony went into the lead in the very first minute when striker Leslie Gomes bulged the net.
The early goal enliven St Anthony to mount pressure on the rival citadel and again Leslie struck second time to give his team a 2-0 cushion.
Post resumption, St Anthony continued to dictate terms in both attacks and defence and in the 50th minute Agnas Vaz put the issue beyond doubt by slamming home from close range.
After taking 3-0 lead, St Anthony slackened their pace and allowed their rival to launch barrage of attacks. Moses D’Sa scored the consolation goal in the 87th minute.
St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda and Immaculate Conception Sports Club, Paroda qualified for the play-off.
In Group D at DYSA ground, Curtorim, Dicarpale Sports Club and Sporting Club of Davorlim were involved 2-2 draw. Sporting Club of Davorlim held upper hand in the opening session as Max Borges out put his team in front in the 15th minute. After the break, Max Borges secured his brace in the 55th minute.
Down by two goals, Dicarpale Sports Club went all out and in the 76th minute Ryan Furtado reduced the deficit. Leslie Carvalho cancelled the lead at the fag end.
Our Mapusa correspondent adds:- Bicholim Association of Football Fans (BAFF) outplayed Cunchelim Sports Club 6-1 in GFA’s Third Division Bardez zone football league match, at Tivim ground, Tuesday. The winners led 3-1 at half time.
BAFF went into the lead in the fifth minute through Ritesh Harijan, who gave finishing touches to a Kingsley cross.
In the 22nd minute, Cunchelim equalized through Omkar Sawant 1-1.
However, BAFF went 2-1 up through as Ritesh secured a brace in the 30th minute while Saroj Mandar made it 3-1 before the break.
Post resumption, Ritesh completed his hat-trick and in the 85th minute Vishnu Mandrekar netted the fifth off a goal mouth melee. Dashing Deulkar made it 6-1 for BAFF in the 89th minute.
At Siolim ground, Xetrapal Sports Club went down to Dunes Sports Club 4-0.
