SALIGAO: The Aam Aadmi Party volunteers on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) expressing deep concern for the residents of Sada, Vasco, Mormugao and the surrounding areas and objected to the continuous and rampant air and sound pollution generated by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
The party demanded that the consent to operate issued to MPT/Adani MPTL and South West Port Ltd for handling of hazardous cargo such as wooden chips/coal/coke on illegally reclaimed land be revoked.
In the memorandum they have questioned the board as to how it issued consent to establish and consent to operate to M/s Adani MPTL and South West Port Ltd, without even ascertaining the title of the land on which coal/coke handling plants are established. The ownership of the land reclaimed from River Zuari vests in the Government of Goa under Sec 14 (1) of Goa Land Revenue Code.
