Guv advised not to visit ship: Officials
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, NOV 13
In what seems to be a victory for the protestors, Raj Bhavan officials said that Goa Governor Dr S S Sidhu will not visit NRP Sagres, a Portuguese Navy’s boat, which has touched Mormugao Port.
Raj Bhavan sources, however, said that the cancellation of visit is not due to protests but other issues.
Sources stated that the Ministry of External Affairs was contacted by Governor’s office to seek permission to visit the ship, as any vessel of different country is considered to be a foreign territory.
Since this ship is of a smaller nature, the Governor, who is a head of the state, was advised not to visit it. Instead, the ship crew is likely to call on Governor at Raj Bhavan tomorrow.
BJP, Freedom Fighters, Bharat Swabhiman and like minded organizations had appealed Governor and CM not to visit the ship.
