State to form separate AYUSH dept

PANJIM: The State government on Friday announced the formation of a separate department – AYUSH – on line with the Directorate of Health Services, to implement a parallel system of medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy.

Under the AYUSH set up, clinics would be established in district, sub-district hospitals, community and primary health centres functioning under the deputy director AYUSH.
“The focus would be on creating a parallel system on lines with the Directorate of Health Services catering to allopathy. We would have clinics of Ayurveda and Homeopathy across government hospitals,” Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza said after the cabinet meeting. 
The cabinet approved 38 posts for the department like deputy director, Ayurveda and Homeopathy physicians.
“The Deputy Director (AYUSH) is required to monitor and expand the AYUSH facilities across the State through the district hospitals,” the minister said. 
The deputy chief minister said two district AYUSH hospitals would come up in North and South Goa along with one AYUSH Research Centre at Chimbel. “Union AYUSH ministry has also planned to set up All India Naturopathy Centre in Goa,” he said, adding that setting up AYUSH in district hospitals would be the focus for now. 
Informing about various cabinet decisions, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the Cabinet has approved filling up of 16 posts of veterinary officers on contract basis in the directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and that another 10 posts of lower division clerks have been made in the Town and Country Planning department.
