Anxiety was writ large on the faces of the residents as they have called for implementation of measures to prevent spread of the virus in the village. Many of the residents, who had attended the funeral of the woman, raised questions whether they can get the flu and the precautionary measures they need to take.
Kavlekar later called up the Director of Health Services Dr Sanjeev Dalvi and conveyed him the apprehensions of the Betul villagers on the swine flu virus. He informed the health director that there village is hit by a scare in view of the death of the 48-year old and has called for awareness program in the village.
Kavlekar told Herald on Sunday evening that a DHS team headed by the Balli Primary health officer will descend near the Betul Church on Monday morning to screen the villagers as well as to spread awareness on the swine flu virus. “Those people, especially who had closely associated with the funeral of the woman, will be screened, besides villagers who are having fever, cold and cough,” Kavlekar said.
He told the villagers that there’s no need to panic over the situation, but to attend the screening and awareness program organised by the DHS team on Monday morning near the Church.
