PANJIM: Exactly ten days after ore transportation began, the first accident took place at Pilgao junction on Monday. A loaded truck belonging to a local ore transporter for Vedanta company overturned just 30 metres away from the main junction at around 11.40 am. Sources say the accident happened after the driver lost control of the vehicle, however, he escaped with minor injuries.

Villagers alleged that the police failed to conduct a panchanama of the incident for conspicuous reasons and feared that that more accidents could take place in the future if the transportation continues.
Speaking to reporters, Sudhakar Vaigankar, a local farmer, said,
“After resumption of transportation of iron ore, this is the first accident but fortunately no one was injured. There is so much dust pollution caused due to the transportation of the iron ore but nobody seems to care. Hope the government takes note of it as soon as possible,” Vaigankar said.
Mining transportation started in Pilgao Sarmanas on Friday, December 13, at around 4.10 pm, via the main road, despite the farmers agitation which has been going on for the last 23 days.
Twenty trucks, accompanied by a police escort, had traversed the main road in the given time.
